Our Philosophy

The concept of The Mind/Body Connection comes from the philosophy that many individuals are not fully aware of their own thought processes. The emotional health and well being of an individual comes from within. When a person is not fully aware or cannot accept the emotions they are feeling they become sick.

Physical pain – health related issues – i.e. headaches, backaches, stomachaches, muscle aches, shoulder pain, heart conditions, etc. can all be a result of stress. Stress when not dealt with or expressed in a positive fashion can destroy our relationships with others as well as ourselves.

Emotions are perfectly normal and healthy, it is how we express them that can be a problem. These emotions can be handled effectively.  Ms. Mastellone will enable you to be a healthier and happier individual with the skills that she teaches.  Her workshops, support groups and telephone counseling services can assist individuals when they acknowledge that there is a problem in handling relationships with others.

How can corporations benefit?   How can individuals benefit?

How Corporations Can Benefit - Wellness Impacts the Bottom Line:  It is the Preventative Solution

Corporations have put substantial focus on customer satisfaction because it has resulted in a profitable bottom line. What companies have failed to realize or focus on is that businesses not only rely on the individuals who buy their products, but the individuals who make the products. The employee’s contribution drives the product to its successful completion, therefore increasing the quality and quantity of output. If the employee is not able to produce or perform successfully, the output and bottom line are affected.

If an employee is dissatisfied with their company or their career, this disgruntled employee is not as effective as an employee that is interested in their work, is part of a company that appreciates them, and has a good working relationship with co-workers. The organization and fellow co-workers affect the productivity or performance of an individual. If employees cannot work together even the most technologically advanced workplace will find it difficult to compete effectively.

These are only a few of the elements that affect an individual’s performance and the success of a company. The business environment has changed with increased globalization and diversification of the workforce and competition. The responsibility to adjust to these changes rests in the hands of everyone and businesses of today are no exception. A strategic partner needs to be formed with organizational leaders, employees and the rest of society – including government.  Everyone’s challenge is to recognize its role and responsibility in the creation of problems, the impact upon other stakeholders and the solution. This challenge can be met only through a shift from a traditional approach to a preventive approach. A traditional approach to problems or decreasing negative impacts has been to be reactive and implement short-run solutions without consideration of its effect on their stakeholders.

Employees that have participated in worksite wellness programs reported improved self-esteem, higher energy levels, and better attitudes and behaviors. This has led to more loyal, enthusiastic and highly motivated employees. These individuals also claimed that their physical health has improved tremendously.

The best advertisement for any organization is a satisfied employee. An employee not only sells a product; he or she sells a company. The failure of many organizations is due to mismanagement. It is time to reassess past experiences and pursue future endeavors with the wellness of their employees in mind.

How Individuals Can Benefit - The Importance of Dealing with your Emotions

The necessity of dealing with emotions can never be overstated.  It is imperative to the successful handling of any given situation.  When people deny their emotions they are repressing a necessary expression required for coping with life effectively.

There are many feelings that an individual can experience at any given time.  These feelings are complex and confusing, i.e., when someone is angry the underlying emotions are based on fear, frustration, helplessness and hopelessness.  To compound the problem the overall feelings of insecurity and unworthiness complicate one’s ability to communicate effectively. Usually an individual that is angry either lashes out at the offender or withdraws from them.  Either behavior is not productive because people react both physically and emotionally in ways that are detrimental to themselves and the relationship.  These reactions and interpretations vary from person to person.

Anger and arguing seem to go hand in hand disabling all parties involved.  The negative impact on the relationship could lead to permanent dissolution.  When an individual is angry he or she needs to step back and analyze what is really occurring.  Is the problem all that it appears to be or are there some underlying issues on either or both sides?  What can be done in a positive fashion to rectify the situation?  Is there some way that the problem can be resolved in a manner that is acceptable to both parties?  Can a mutual understanding be reached?  Is there a way that both participants can accept the decision and not hold grudges, become bitter or later retaliate in some destructive manner?

The problems do not end there.  When a person represses their emotions they can become physically or emotionally sick. Stress is an outcome of unexpressed emotions that is exhibited in several ways.  Headaches, stomach aches, neck & shoulder pain, chest pains, heart palpitations, dizziness, vomiting, sleeplessness, depression, etc. are all indications of the negative physical reactions.  Psychological behaviors ranging from passive-aggressive behavior (I’ll get you later) to hostile, violent acts can be a reaction from an individuals’ inability to communicate.

Techniques to identify and modify the emotional and behavioral reactions are readily available.  Sometimes it is not necessary to get counseling or psychotherapy; occasionally all that needs to be done is some simple life skills training or behavior modification to live a more productive life.

It is important that people start to make The Mind/Body Connection and improve their quality of life.
